Expect Delays University Ave.

Yesterday, I was driving along Hwy 101 with my sweetie kyubi (we'd been to see the USDAA dog agility show).

It was a gorgeous not-too-hot sunny day, and there was a sign on 101 that said "Expect Delays University Ave."

Sure enough, there was a huge line of cars sitting on the University Ave. exit from 101 and extending into a shopping center with a huge four story parking garage...

...belonging to the new Ikea that opened up last weekend.

Of all the things to do mid-afternoon on a beautiful weekend.

Yeah. blackfyr and I were flirting with the idea of going there just to eat in their dirt-cheap cafeteria yesterday. Then we saw the line of cars on the shoulder of 101 north. Can you say, "Not going there"? I knew you could.

Yup, same thing happened to us a month or so ago...new Ikea opened about twenty minutes from here...well...it's usually twenty minutes from here. Took us at least an hour and a half to get to the parking lot, by which time we'd made the decision to come back another day, for we knew something so secret the people around us couldn't even *guess*.

The store was *permanent*, so we could come back any time we liked.

Weird, that.

I was thinking, "Y'know, if any alien race were bent on capturing humans efficiently, all they'd need to do is plop down an Ikea store every 50 miles or so. Poof! Hominid Roach Motels!"

IKEA can't open in Ireland until they rewrite the anti-monoploy laws that regulate store size.

This Ikea will be about 20 minutes from my house once people figure out it's permanent.

I thought you were going to say University move-in, because that's what's happening here today.

Something about the IKEA business plan may be that it won't work unless it's usually crowded.
