Today's jewelry
14 Feb 2004 10:20 pmThis bracelet is going to be a base for a beaded ivy vine. But I liked it by itself so much that I wanted to scan it before I put the leaves on. This time the scan shows some of the brightness of the silver-lined red beads. This is made of peyote stitch and net stitch. It was supposed to have a criss-cross pattern, but I had trouble following the pattern so it's broken in a lot of places. I think it looks good that way, fortunately - it gives a sort of organic randomness effect.

Date: 3 Mar 2004 07:20 am (UTC)I got a cool book out of the library a while back called Beads: An Exploration of Bead Traditions Around the World by Janet Coles. It describes the history of bead-making in various regions and includes more-or-less authentic projects using beads local to those regions. It had a gorgeous Egyptian necklace.
(Amazon link here. I would have linked to the publisher's page, but the publisher's page had almost no information on the book.)
