I seem to know a lot of ample knitters.

Is there an equivalent of http://www.knitty.com/ for fat people?

Or an equivalent of [livejournal.com profile] knitting even?

If not, wanna start one?

I gather this was prompted (or at least encouraged) by the post in [livejournal.com profile] crochet this afternoon?

i know of an ample knitter's website, which i think was affiliated with a mailing list, so this might be the same list to which you subscribe.

in any case, yes. we should have a community. i've been working on resizing patterns from all-too-slim-peopled italian yarn mags.

hip_fat_yarnies, or something. :)

Why not? I'd be interested. I haven't tried anything yet that would need to be fitted to my body, and so haven't thought much about resizing patterns. But I'm sure that's in my future.

Rumour has it Amy from Knitty's next book will be knits for the larger woman.

But other than Ample Knitters I'm not aware of any online resources specifically for larger women.

It's not a rumor, it's a fact.

You might check the memories in [livejournal.com profile] knitting or even ask there. It seems to me that the topic came up recently there, in conjunction with Amy Singer of knitty's announcement of her upcoming book (http://knitty.com/blog/archives/2004_10_01_knittyblogarchive.html). (scroll down a post or two there to find the info) A lot of the designs from knitty that are sized for larger women were written by people in that lj community, so I know there are people thinking about this very thing there.

I'd join. Still only knitting hats and scarves, but I want to move on to a sweater.

the math part of knitting is making me crazy, so far, so i wish at least that someone else would size up the patterns for me. :)

i've been doing this sort of thing quite a bit lately, and have been wondering how to share it with others, since most of the patterns to which i do this are under copyright. i think i'd be ok if i published only the measurements themselves with a link to where one can acquire the pattern (not the instructions themselves), but i want to check with a few places that sell patterns before i dump what i have on a website.

eeeeeeeeeee!

i think it would be fine, copyright wise, if you shared individual pattern names/descriptions and then maybe instructions if they wanted with individual people in email, she said, mentioning that her email was kallisti at visi dot com.
