that old pizza joint
west corner of the strip mall, on the main drag,
it was abandoned after last year's floods, you realize.
windows're covered with newspapers,
there's garbage on the floor.
and sandbags leaning against the door
like used-up old men, still waiting
for the next big rain.

For some reason I thought about Buffy's, "(and) after the floods roll back, I am going to be a fireman," and then Circus Animals Disertion. Is there a ladder there? *smile*

"Old silence bids its chosen race rejoice,
Whatever ravelled waters rise and fall
Or stormy silver fret the gold of day,"
(The Man Who Dreamed of Fairyland, 30-33).

Don't mind me. I'm still caffinating. Thanks for posting this!
