The OH and I want to hire someone to do light cleaning of our house and are seeking recommendations.

Details

We prefer the person to come in every three weeks on a weekday late morning or early afternoon.

The work involves cleaning one kitchen and two bathrooms (one upstairs and little used), mopping the laundry room floor and the entryway floor (tile floors), vacuuming the carpet in the living room and downstairs bedroom, emptying wastepaper baskets, and taking out a bag or two of garbage. There's little to no dusting required. There are occasionally other jobs such as vacuuming/sweeping the garage or the stairs.

The previous person we hired usually finished this work in an hour or two but billed a three-hour minimum, so we expected her to include the extra jobs in her regular fee.

We're willing to pay $60 per visit to start for this work, and offer a raise to $75 after four satisfactory cleanings. We prefer to pay cash.

We prefer the person we hire to bring cleaning supplies; we can supply a vacuum and mop. But we are willing to keep cleaning supplies at our place if necessary.

About us: We live on the SF Bay Peninsula between Redwood City and Belmont. We're both geeks; the OH works in an office, I work at home. We have a typical geek's cluttered house with too many books and not much decor. We're poly and I'm queer, and one might see a sex toy or two around the house and naughty refrigerator magnets, so whomever we hire needs to be OK with that.

Have you considered a professional service? I used to have Merry Maids come in once a month when I had a day job, and was always very happy with them; and I still have them do the Huge Annual Cleaning prior to Chocolate Decadence. Of course, I don't know what the professional services charge in your area...
