No on California Prop 73

California Proposition 73 would require doctors to notify parents when a teen seeks an abortion.

I oppose this. Teens who feel safe talking to their parents about an abortion will do so. It's not going to improve any parent-teen relationships for parents to find out from a doctor that their child is pregnant. It's not going to improve any teenagers' health or safety to avoid doctors and seek abortions elsewhere, to wait until a later stage of pregnancy to choose abortion, or to bear unwanted children.

I don't think many of the people reading my journal need it explained to them why this proposition is a bad idea. It just pisses me right off that I have to spend ANY brain cells on this when there's so much stuff going on to worry about.

An organization whose mailing list I'm on alerted me to prop 73 (I don't remember which organization - probably planned parenthood).

I just got my election materials in the mail; I had to look at them to answer your question about the Arnie propositions :-)

Ah, I did not pick up yesterday's mail. I'll look for that. Honestly I did not know that anything but Arnie's Three were going to be on there, so I thought voting would be a slam dunk ("just say no").

I don't know how long you've lived in California...I've lived here since 1988, and there are always piles of propositions, even in "special" elections.

Saying no to all of them is a time honored tradition for people who can't be bothered to find out who the special interests are behind them all.

I arrived about four years after you. Probably I've just never noticed when something was a special election and when it was a normal one (I barely know what day of the week it is, much less whether it is an even-numbered year). This one was very heavily publicized as being "special".

Gaack. That means my mailbox will start to fill up with propaganda spam again, crushing all the fragile Netflix packages. Great...
