Some images NWS (but the page linked below is WS).

http://www.jedsart.com/main.htm

It's sort of "If Boris Vallejo were an FA" (or as one guestbook comment put it, "Boris Vallejo meets Robert Crumb") but the women are depicted as powerful and decisive, not as reactive or assistive.

Many but not all of the images depict ultra-muscularity. A woman who posted about it on a mailing list I read commented that she doesn't often see depictions of fat women who are muscular, and that many of us fat people have lots of muscles under our fat layers so it's nice to see depictions that convey that. I concur.

(Update: It appears the artist has an LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jebriodo)

Your guess is as good as mine, as I've mentioned it in my journal more than once.... (It's [livejournal.com profile] yohannon's baby, and I've got mod access, so let me know if you'd actually like to join and I'll send you an invite.)

Done. And you're set up with unmoderated posting access, as I trust you to read (and more importantly, follow) the instructions in the community info.... ;-)

I'm at work, so I haven't been able to look at many. The muscular ones do strike me as odd, though. It's not that I don't know that many fat people have muscles underneath, but I've never seen anybody who was both fat and sported a six-pack. The definition kept striking me odd. I'm looking forward looking through them all this evening, though.

No lie! How wonderful! I know someone who was a fat nude model for art other than Women En Large!

Nice. Thanks for posting them. It's interesting... in a women's class last year one (much more slender) participant said that when she looked at me what she saw was "strength." When I look at many of these pictures, that's what I see the artist conveying. It's a very clear message that strength and fat are not necessarily mutually exclusive, which is rather unusual in our culture. I really liked the Big Fairy (or whatever he called it), too. I'd just been contemplating having someone draw me as a Pixie (Akien's nickname for me for years), and I imagine I'd come out looking a bit like that (though my arms aren't NEARLY that well developed!).

:^) That makes sense to me. I certainly see you as a strong person in many ways.

If I were still running an artshow for an SF con, I'd be inviting him to exhibit right about now.

Time for me to bug my friends who still are....

YES YES YES! You would get much gratitude from me, especially if it were a convention I might go to.
