I made a cabled scarf with a DNA pattern for my dad. The original pattern is here:
http://www.twosheep.com/helix/

I was using thicker than sport weight yarn - some lovely undyed wool handspun by Sandi Luck that I got in a yarn swap with her and [livejournal.com profile] punkmom. So I modified the pattern and left off the border.

I love cabling.

The pix didn't come out very well, but here they are:

Very nice! A friend has offered to teach me to spin llama wool, and I'm so excited by the prospect.

Cables are my new most favorite thing in knitting. Lots of bang for your buck.

Presently knitting a scarf which is cabled and reversible, and every single adult who has seen it in progress has hinted mightily that they'd really like it if someone would make them a cabled scarf.

That looks wonderful! Interestingly the rest of that yarn is a cabled sweater, must be something Sandi spun into the yarn....must make cables....
