firecat: hello kitty reading a book (reading hk)

I love book list memes. Earlier this year I came across one that listed not only the Hugos, but also the Nebulas, Stokers, Dicks, Tiptrees, WFAs, and Clarkes. Here it is:

Since then I've also read Hiromi Goto's The Kappa Child, which was the 2001 Tiptree winner, and Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, which won the 2005 Hugo and World Fantasy awards.

This reminds me that I wanted to pick up this project last you wrote about it. It also reminds me that I decided not to; I don't have the time.

I did re-read The Left Hand of Darkness recently. I loved it the first time, and I loved it this time. It's a great story, and the gender-stuff is done so well, never taking the easy path, always looking for the story rather than the effect.

I picked up the paperback of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, as well as His Dark Materials for my summer holiday reading. I'll also take the remainder of the Baroque cycle, to fill all reading mood nooks and crannies.

Did you ever read Olaf Stapledon?
