firecat: two wagging dog tails (wag)

My parents decided they wanted another dog (their previous dog died about a year ago). They only like miniature schnauzers. http://petfinder.org came through for us and today they brought home a mini schnauzer from a "Toy Breed Rescue" foster parent. Here's his writeup and photo (it might not be up there for much longer):

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=6972849

The writeup doesn't mention that he's a purebred AKC dog. His sire's name is "Sir Chomps a Lot". However, when I google on that name, I come up with an alligator, a text-based adventure game, ravioli in the shape of a dinosaur, and someone's pet venus flytrap.

Cute!

pawvillage.com doesn't have that name for mini-schnauzers but the AKC (https://www.akc.org/reg/pedigrees.cfm) seems to have a service where they could track it down if they wanted to.

He's adorable.

Uh, what was his native language (ref his writeup which says "He is slowly adjusting to the English language which was very frightening for him when he first arrived.")?

Hmmm - "This pet has been altered" - does that mean what I think it means? In which case, I wonder why the euphemism? Is it considered rude to say "Neutered"? Would "sterilised" or "castrated" be an acceptable alternative?

Yes, I find "altered" a bit too much in the euphemism department. (It does mean what you think it means).

It's a lovely dog [livejournal.com profile] firecat, I'm always happy when otherwise homeless animals find humans who really want them.

Some people think "neutered" refers only to the male, as "castrated" also does. (Females are correspondingly "spayed" -- the word comes from blade, "epee"!) "Sterilized" seems fine to me, but "altered" is the non-sex-specific boilerplate of choice for some reason.

I was too late to be able to see the petfinder link to the doggy, but have my own minischnauzer story mentioned at flickr.com (http://flickr.com/photos/opalmirror/230144191/). I learned a bit about this breed and think that a minischnauzer would make a great companion. If I were not already overbrimming with cats and had a bit more time to give, then I would've given Wusky a permanent home.
