Alpha

My ability to pay attention to what I call my "alpha state" (the state of mind I get into just before going to sleep) is back. (Wellbutrin took it away for a while.) I can sort of follow the voices and music and images. They change constantly. It's kind of like MTV. I like it; it's very entertaining.

Grudging acceptance
I guess I can forgive MTV for trying to mimic the human alpha state if Virginia Woolf and James Joyce were doing it in print at the beginning of the 19th century.

We now call Alpha State what we used to call day dreaming?

I don't know about "we"...also this is different from daydreaming...I can't quite explain. To me, daydreaming is letting your mind wander but having it more or less in a state of ordinary consciousness. What I'm talking about happens in a half-asleep state.

I call it alpha state because I imagine if they put electrodes on me they would say I was generating alpha brain waves. I don't know, though.

I understand. This state usually comes to me as I am waking. I wake very slowly sometimes and the images and feelings in that state are so real. Is that what you are talking about?
