I had no idea there was such a thing as Tolkien-themed heavy metal (a few references by Led Zeppelin notwithstanding), never mind that there were multiple bands devoted to it. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised...

Not that this is heavy metal, but did you ever hear The Lords of the Rhymes (http://lordsoftherhymes.com/)? I made a "Lords of the Trampoline" music video using it.

Oh yeah, I love Blind Guardian (http://vito-excalibur.livejournal.com/119515.html)!

This is a fanvid to their song "Lord of the Rings." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSr8jKqYIWM) Good one for a non-metal fan to check out.

Sounds like me, it does tend to give my age away to current fans if I list the bands I like and that I've seen live :-)

Wow, so being a heavy metal fan I must be an ignorant, greasy teenager who wouldn't recognize a book if I tripped over it? I wonder what this person would think of most of Iron Maiden's catalog, which includes songs about many classic SF and Fantasy novels. Or Metallica's two songs about H.P. Lovecraft.

This doesn't surprise me at all. There's a band called Glass Hammer which has albums based on LOTR and on C.S. Lewis' Perelandra; and then of course Alan Parsons Project's entire Tales of Mystery and Imagination album is based on the works of Poe. None of these are heavy metal, but it's all in the same spectrum.
