One of my parents' miniature Schnauzers, Pepper, was just diagnosed with diabetes. He's at the pet hospital for now. But once he is released, I am wondering what treatment regimen will be required. (I have diabetes, so I know in general, but I don't know if there are significant differences for treatment in dogs.) Will you share your experience?

I do not know about dogs, but we give our diabetic cat Bean insulin injections twice a day, and when he goes in for his regular checkups or when there's reason to believe things might be akilter, he gets various tests done to check his blood sugar to adjust dosages and such. It means we can't really free-feed him, since we give him the shots at meal times, but otherwise it's actually remarkably easy.

Hey. Just a question: My hands have been shaking lately (most of the time it is very mild.) Does diabetes cause this?

I don't have a dog, but I give my cat insulin twice a day plus a healthy weight food formula (which doesn't work). Ideally he would go in for appointments every month, but the vet is understanding and we go in every 3rd month or so.
