My Dad is experimenting with a so-called curry recipe that my mom used to make. When I was a kid it tasted really spicy to me. I expect that I wouldn't taste any spice at all now, as the recipe is written. This recipe is pretty much the only memory I have that lets me compare my taste sense today with what it was when I was a kid.

The ginger might add a little heat, but otherwise yeah, not much there. I'm betting one reason it read as spicy when you were a kid was the salt. Remember those cubes are somewhere over a gram of NaCl each...
