Edit 1/19/10: Turns out I don't have to activate a data pack in order to send pictures. VM eventually suggested that I try a hard reset on my phone to fix the problem where it wouldn't send photos, and that worked.

I'm still cranky at them so I appreciate the suggestions of other pay as you go services.

I'm unhappy with VM because it seems they have changed their pay as you go plan so that you have to activate a data pack ($1.50 per 24 hours) in order to send pictures. I used to be able to send pictures for 25 cents each, without activating a data pack, and I'm sick of their adding extra charges to my plan. Plus, the picture sending isn't working anyway.

I don't know if they offer everything you need or not, but I'd suggest you check out TracFone. Paula has one and it's been very reliable for a couple of years now. I know they support text messages, and since they sell camera phones I assume they support sending pictures too. I just don't know if they offer a per picture deal like the one you used to have.

It's reliable; texting might be expensive (but might not be - I've never tried). One thing that sticks out, and it's a minor issue - you may not be able to e-mail-text, because they borrow from other carriers. So, e.g., you can't e-mail a text message to (phonenumber)@tracfone.com, the way you can with some other carriers.

(That may have changed - I haven't checked it for a few years.)
