Yeah, throughout the series, there are frequent references to The Wizard of Oz. For example, Gene often refers to Sam as "Dorothy" because of Sam's tendency to act like he just arrived via tornado.
The Iz version of "Over the Rainbow" rounds that allusion off nicely, I think.
I'd never heard of him before (and despite watching Life on Mars didn't recognize that 'cos I'm hopeless at music), but wow, what a voice. Thank you for introducing me to him .
