Yeah, how can the list not have Pamela Dean??

I think it's comprised of winners and nominees of the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, and Tiptree Awards. I can't verify this by googling; it's something I heard at Wiscon, were there were copies of the periodic table of women writers and editors posted on the walls.

I was pleased to be able to count over 20 authors I've read/own (I own most of the stuff I've read it). I stopped counting for the ones I didn't know... probably well over half the list. Must work on that.

For years I've been working on a project of reading all the hugo and nebula award winners. I think I'm going to abandon that and work on a project of reading one novel by each of the women on this list.

Melissa Scott is awesome - thoroughly recommended. And the best kids' sci-fi was written by Andre Norton. No H.M. Hoover on this list, who wrote just as good kids' sci-fi (but not as much, alas).

Oh, man, I'd completely forgotten Joan Aiken but I read her a lot as a preteen and in my early teens.

I also hugely loved Susan Cooper's "The Dark is Rising" series as a kid, and it's on my "to re-read" list.

I remember liking Rumer Godden, but it's been so long (20-ish years?) since I've read anything by her, I can't recommend a specific book.

The only thing I read by Sharon Shinn was a little heavy on the romance and light on the SF for me, but I know other people who just lover her stuff.
