...from a mini-vacation in Santa Cruz. It's fun to walk the Boardwalk when everything is closed...and to find out I still haven't lost my knack for "Air Hockey."
I like Santa Cruz. Lots of cool shops downtown. Usually I'm there to visit friends, including up at UCSC -- and/or go to Kiva. It's been over a month since I've been to the Boardwalk, and when I'm there I like to play the 80's video arcade games (pacman, galaga, q-bert, xaxxon, etc.). They're really cool, and they have a wide selection.
I read your entries, and then I start to really miss the bay area. Maybe one day I'll return, but since I would really like to live in the heart of the city (Noe Valley) The situation needs to be just right- ie, I make waaaay more $ than I do now, and I don't need to commute. Not really sure how to accomplish this. :-)
That is a huge drawback to the Bay Area, how much $ it takes to live here. It was true in 1988 when I was trying to decide whether to move here or Seattle, and it's still true. *sigh*
I haven't been to the Boardwalk when it was open since 1989. I expect that OH and I will find an excuse to go back in the winter, and maybe we'll do it on a weekend next time.

I have, briefly. My brother kept insisting on taking his kids there when they'd come to Santa Cruz, and I went along the first couple of times. After that, though, I said forget it, they could come to the house when they were done. What can I say, I'm not big on crowds. Or amusement park rides.
The Boardwalk makes a nice backdrop for the annual fireworks, though.
I looooove air hockey. My brother and I used to play so much that we got a cheap table to hammer on when we didn't want to go up to the nearest place that had one. *)
