This is a slide show about social networks, geared toward web designers. I find the format (clicking through 216 slides) rather annoying and some of the content is kind of annoying too (gosh, she's using crutches and wearing high heels!), but there's a lot of interesting information and theory about how people interact, especially online.

I am completely on board with that.

But I didn't like the way the presentation called out that particular behavior as an example of "Humans care a lot about their image, how they come across to other people, even to the point of doing foolishly uncomfortable things." I thought using that as the sole example was kind of sexist. Also there was a photo and I kind of doubted that the people in the photo had given permission:

Hmm. I'm with you 100% on the "let me embarrass you anonymously in front of thousands of people" (although the presenter did take the photo himself, so there's at least a possibility he had releases).

If he'd been taking pix in my town, he'd have had hundreds of chances to memorialize hatless young men in shorts, t-shirts and sneakers in 10°F weather.
