I especially like the ones about The Matrix (which I've seen all of) and Twilight (which I haven't seen any of).

Flavia Dzodan discusses recent developments in the Dominique Strauss-Kahn case. (excerpt)
This goes much further than pointing at the collective and trying to wash away the impact of the current development by claiming that “we all lie”. The core of the problem here is slightly different: some people’s survival, their very own sustainability sometimes depend on a lie. We judge these lies based on parameters that never contemplate this need for survival. We apply a normalized quasi religious stance: lying is bad! But hardly anyone questions why the lies are necessary, why we live in a system where certain people must lie in order to get access to privileges that are always afforded to members of the dominant culture.

Thank you for the link to that Cracked article! I only go there on recs, so I would never have found it myself, and I loved that OB-1 theory!

As a Twilight fan, the Twilight one is hilarious and awesome and very plausible, given that her father's from that area and there're a fucking lot of werewolves up there.

"there're a fucking lot of werewolves up there" is now officially my favorite Twilight-related thought ever.

Well there ARE. And while there is massive amounts of associated Native American fail, in the movie they are all played by really hot Native American guys. (In fact it and an awesome green taffeta dress that I bought a copy of at Torrid are the only redeeming features of the second movie, which was badly adapted from the second book because the people making the movie wanted to make it look like Jacob might succeed at Nice Guying Bella into being his girlfriend, even though there was never a snowball's chance of hell that would happen in the books. I'm Team Bella, which sort of necessitates being on Team Edward, because that's what SHE wants, and because it's a mistake that she has all of eternity to rethink, as opposed to one she doesn't really want to make that is likely to end up with her being seriously injured or maimed because werewolves are fun to look at but I wouldn't want to marry one--anger management isn't a strength and they are ever so sorry when they hurt their partners but their partners still sometimes get hurt.)

Oooookay. *backs away slowly*

No seriously, you've put way more thought into this than I'm capable of addressing so, uh, yeah. :D

Sorry! I can go on and on about Twilight without meaning to on those rare occasions that I mention liking it and get a response that isn't "what's wrong with you?"

Oh. Till the last sentence, I thought it was talking about politicians who have to lie about sex to keep their jobs.
