Google+ traffic is down 37% in the last 18 days. (I'm surprised that post doesn't mention #nymwars as one of the possible causes.)

Zornhau on LJ made up a new word: Googlekaze.

I find it interesting* that he is responding pretty consistently to all of the comments except the ones mentioning #nymwars.

*by interesting I mean eye-rolling

I noticed that too. He addresses all the suggested reasons...except #nymwars.

Which is why _I_ just deleted MY G+ account (and Google profile as well).

It's why I'm now using DuckDuckGo for almost all my search needs with Bing as my backup search. It's why I was looking at Zoho for email when I was notified of your comment. It's why I removed everything that I could from YouTube a few weeks ago. And it's why I didn't sign up for G+ to begin with.

I saw that post of yours. It was linked somewhere. Thank you for it. I had used DDG a long while ago but their search results were pretty crap at the time so I stopped using it. I am getting much better results now from them.

I've read too much about Google linking stuff that you don't want linked (via [personal profile] skud) and too many lose everything if you delete your G+ or they don't like your name situations to even take the risk. Although I do have much temptation to get an account just to be a trouble-maker.

I am highly amused. I posted the link on Twitter and made a comment regarding his ignoring #nymwars and he sent me a tweet that said:
I publish every comment, even scan hundreds of spam to find false positives.

Not the point, dude. Not the point.

Googlekaze. XD

Oh, Google+. Such a pity to see a nice idea go so, so wrong.

Remember decision fatigue? I'm wondering if there's such a thing as Social Networking Site Choice Fatigue. (You can make up a better name for it.) I'm active on three sites (none of them google+), and have accounts I don't use any more on two more. I also created an account on google (not google+) so I could read some documents a friend stored there.

The very thought of adding yet another account on yet another site makes me keel over. Do people have a saturation point for this stuff? Or am I just not kewl?

I'm getting a kick out of collecting them -- it kind of reminds me of all the BBSes I used to call back in the BBS days.

I think people can't overlook the, "So... what now?" factor. A lot of people I've spoken to got onto Google+ early because it was new and shiny and they wanted to check it out. Then, most of those people realized that they had absolutely no use for it, and stopped showing up. That's pretty much what happened with Google's other social media ventures (Buzz, that other one whose name I'm totally blanking on), so it doesn't surprise me a lot. They seem to have a real, "If you build it, they will come," attitude, and I think that that only works if people have a compelling reason to want to come.

Hahahaha!  And I made DDG my default search engine last night, on one browser, anyway.  More to go.

Somehow, I hear in the background a cue of Lili Von Stupp sighing her way through, "I'm Tired."

I've been thinking a good deal about it because I get excited, but to make it an exciting place to be my friends have to be there too. If five friends are there it's ok but I log in and see their same posts over and over. I 'm used to a stream of around 50-75 people. Without that stream of friends and conversation - and I mean net friends of mine from the last - urk - twenty years - it feels flat. And why go to the trouble of mainintaining an account for five friends if they're already available through other platforms? I haven't found enough of a reason.

With G+ in particular the nymn wars have pissed me off.

I don't mind interacting with strangers on tumblr because my interests there happen to be almost exclusively with images. But verbally interacting with more and more new groups of strangers is where the fatigue sets in with me. I would LOVE for all my friends to migrate to Diaspora, even though it is still very rough around the edges. But I don't see it happening. **sigh**
