You guys, Helen Mirren just said in an interview that she would like to play the Doctor on Doctor Who. And then I exploded. Wow. Helen Mirren. Doctor Who. With a creamy “wants to play” center.
I don't need that much convincing...it's just that I find the number of episodes daunting compared to the amount of time I spend watching TV by myself...the OH having said he doesn't want to watch Dr Who.

...although come to think of it, he might well watch Helen Mirren do Dr Who.

What kind of episode would you enjoy? Silly, serious drama, mystery, historical, horror, social commentary, more emphasis on the sci fi aspect, more emphasis on the time travel aspect? Doctor who does them all.

One of my top favorites is "Midnight" with David Tennant as the Doctor. I think it stands alone as a sci fi/horror/mystery story, with a bit of humor. The performances are great. It's not an "arc episode," so you can watch it independent of the rest.

My other top recommendations are "Tooth and Claw," which features Queen Victoria and werewolves, and "The Girl In the Fireplace," which features a time window into 18th century France, cool-looking androids, and a bit of romance. Both are stand-alone episodes and both lean toward the horror genre.
