So here's what I want.
An ebook reader app.
  • It works on both the iPod/iPad and Android smartphone.
  • It stores books and bookmarks in the cloud so when I open the book on a different device, it remembers where I was.
  • It also stores books and bookmarks locally so I don't need to have wireless access to use it.
  • It lets me upload and store DRMed and non-DRMed epub format books.
Here's where my research has gotten me so far. These apps meet all the criteria except the one listed.
  • Bluefire: Doesn't store bookmark data online.
  • Google Books: Can't upload your own books, as far as I know.
  • Kobo: Stores bookmark data online for books you get through its store, but not for books you upload.
Do you know any apps that fit all the criteria?

I've not gotten that far in my wish list. I'm tempted to give Bluefire a try.

nook? I have it on a nook color, and a xoom, and it appears to do those things. You have to push the "synch library" button and remember to actually download the stuff you want. Or doesn't it work on IOS. It's a little weird about the stuff I get from gutenberg, but not terminally so.

Once you download the files, you have to move them into the B&N directory structure, but there's a place ("My Files" iirc) for them.

And the children's book thing I kinda understand, because they have some kind of enhanced format for kid/toddler books that has sound and turns its own pages and so forth. (I don't really think that giving a spensivish electronic device to a kid who still chews on pages is a particularly good idea, but I'm glad that isn't part of the regular functions. Also, they probably have to do something to prevent data collection/sharing by the under-13s or run into federal law...)

Kindle?

I thought the Kindle app did all of those things...

If you find one, I'd be very happy to hear what it is! I've been enjoying reading books in the Kindle app on my iPad and my Android phone, but that only works for books I buy from them. (I was able to load a non-Amazon ebook into the Kindle app on the iPad, but of course it doesn't sync bookmarks or anything since it's not theirs.)

My wishlist has one additional item: the ability to reset the "furthest read" marker, so that when I re-read books I can still move easily from device to device without losing my place. All the apps I've used so far assume you go through a book once and then you're done. (Weird assumption!)
