This statue ("Super-sized David Garden Sculpture by Design Toscano") is for sale on Amazon and is being made much of in several "weird things" blogs. As a public service, here it is minus all of the negative commentary it comes with in other blogs.

It's a nice conceit, but I'll take Rodin's Balzac nude instead, I think. I'm always a sucker for Rodin, not least because dude LOVED bodies, all kinds of bodies.

You know, that really shouts "Bacchus" to me, more than "David", despite the absence of vine and wine.

I think this is lovely. Although the fig leaf looks pretty ridiculous.

He looks so frowny! I feel like he'd be making disapproving comments on everything in his line of sight.

The original is not so happy with the world either...

I see thoughtful, not frowny. And the original is far too much of a gangly adolescent to be attractive. Lovely to look at, yes, but not appealing.

This one however ... wonder if Amazon UK has him.

Looks a bit more like Dionysus than David to me, but I like it!

And he'd have a bottle or can in his hand. :D

I like this a lot, and I've thought about actually ordering it, but the accompanying catalog copy puts me off. I wrote to them that they were alienating the group that might buy it; no response. This spring is slated for lots of gardening time, though, so maybe, for a special gift for me....
