And now, a distraction

ljgeoff. I edited it to remove the shoulds because I don't like shoulds.
Our online journals are little filters that we each see every one else's lives through, the parts others choose to share with us. That said, we all think we are close, but really we seldom know *a lot* about each other. So ask me something you think youshould want to know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away. Then, if you like, post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you...

What's possible is just so much more than most of the stuff that commercial entertainment companies come up with. I guess I'll go with Princess Nine. Avatar: The Last Airbender is pretty good so far too, but I haven't finished watching it yet. I'd love to know which is your favorite.

Date: 17 Apr 2012 10:13 am (UTC)Shounen series are notorious for dismissing women characters, so Meitantei Conan (Detective Conan) can be a real delight. Not only are mothers allowed to be alive, they're also allowed to take down villains, and be famous for their skills and talents. Other adult women consist of, among others, snipers, FBI agents, breathtakingly badass police officers, and cunning villains, while some of the younger girls are good in martial arts. In short, whee.

I watch it every few years and I find it fascinating that different parts appeal to me each time; it seems some parts got dated and some didn't and some got dated and then got undated again. Also there's this dialogue it has with how culture and technology changed in real life, compared to how they were imagined at the time.
I first saw Wings of Desire in 88 or 89, and I hated it. I have no idea why I even watched it again, but the second time I watched it, it hooked into a spiritual/shamanic experience I'd had, and I ended up being really moved by parts of it. There are parts I still hate, but the parts I love matter to me more.
