The OH and I went to Babbling Brook Inn in Santa Cruz for an early anniversary (5th/11th) celebration.

We visited Firecat Pottery (thanks [livejournal.com profile] pyrzqxql!). The artist/owner was tickled to find out that her gallery was being discussed on LiveJournal, and she told me that her tuxedo cat cookie jar showed up on Google Images if you searched for "cat cookie jar" (which it does, on the second page of results).

We also visited a tea house, a restaurant that had a fabulous cheese plate (really good artisanal cheese seem to function something like a BDSM scene for me, in terms of generating lasting endorphins), and a restaurant whose owner cares a lot about the campaign to get the British to return the Parthenon (Elgin) Marbles to Greece.

Now I'm all homesick for Santa Cruz. I haven't thought about Babbling Brook for years.

Sigh.

And hey, if you come back next month, you could see (at the Rio Theater, 1205 Soquel Avenue):

March 14th, 2003
Poet COLEMAN BARKS joins musical wonders BARRY & SHELLEY PHILLIPS of Santa Cruz' own GOURD MUSIC for an evening filled with love, harmony, and beauty – an experience of the living reality known sometimes as the Beloved or the Music We Are. The poetry of the Sufi mystic JELALUDDIN RUMI will be performed to improvisational music rooted in the sacred traditions of America, Europe, and beyond. Barks' exquisite renderings of the thirteenth-century Persian mystic are widely considered the definitive versions for our time.
Showtime: 8:00 pm
Tickets: $20 general admission
Advance Tickets: The Book Loft 831-429-1812 and Zamzam Sufi Books, Santa Cruz 831-425-7264; Thunderbird Bookshop in the Barnyard, Carmel 831-624-1803; and through the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment in San Jose 408-283-0221. Well I had *intended* to, even invited someone else to go with me, but then I found out that a talent show type thing one of my children is in will be at the same time. Shelley and Barry Phillips are local and I know them, but every time they're in some event that I'd like to see it's like something always comes up -- some other event, or we have company over, etc., so this is just more of the same in that regard. However, this isn't the first time Coleman Barks and the Phillips have done this kind of event in town, so my guess is it won't be the last, either.

Wow... has it been 5 years, already?

Go youse!

P.S.: (I guess it's not so far out of my time scale.)
