My turn

I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal, if you feel like it.

My first "public performance" was as the narrator for Peter and the Wolf in fifth grade. I wore a white blouse and dark skirt and stood near the orchestra. I was extremely excited, and proud of myself.

I just discovered, on a thread on my LJ entitled "smerp" that a gruff angsty eighteen year old male was once a Pern-obsessed twelve year old, and this delights me with it's serendipity, and by the context of it's revelation, more than anything anyone would say on purpose, and so I'm not going to do this meme.

That is something about me, really.

Hi Firecat!

I befriended you because I like your spunk and spirit. I also think the cat picture is delightful. I'm considering the look for one of my 5 cats (all related - Himilayan and Himilayan/Siamese - *way* too much hair!!!)

I am new to LJ and have very little personal time. So I am adding new friends every time I cross a "kindred spirit" and enjoying getting to know them a little. I need to write in my own journal more but I get interested in my friends, old and new.

When I was small, my father worked for NASA and was always pulling us out of bed at 3 a.m. in PJs to see the Northern Lights, A Comet with an actual wide tail, moons around a planet. He really opened my eyes. Thanks Dad.

I used to play cello until someone borrowed and never returned it. It was made in 1789 in Marseilles, France and was marched through the streets. (Peg holes in the back.) I speak a little french and have been to Paris, to Montreal and Quebec.

I've been to Europe 7 times and lived in a village of 50 in southern England called Crowhurst.

If we were a nicer country, I'd go again.

My name means whiteraven in Gaelic.
I made it up and the "sex" is wrong. LOL!!!!

I have very long hair, to the point where strangers comment on it and occasionally try to touch it (which weirds me out). But for most of my childhood, it looked like the usericon I'm using here.

I "know" you from alt.poly of years back ... always had a lot of respect for the way you posted there. I have two cats. Two partners. Two kids. And I am moving house soon from Yorkshire to London.

I'm rapidly running out of new things to tell people. Ummmm...let's see ....I'm a lurker on womBAT, much more active here on lj, and I am a terrible housekeeper.

I carry a notebook in my jacket pocket all the time, in case I am suddenly inspired to write.

I feel like I've known you for around over a decade, even though we've never met.

I used to read your alt.poly posts prior to the year September never ended, and have enjoyed being a fellow wombat for quite a few years now.

Today, over supper, I was telling stories of meeting Canadian politicans. I realized that though I've met many many politicians in person (including the newly appointed Canadian Finance Minister when he was running in his very first election, my mother gave him a very hard time in our kitchen on the farm, he being a liberal, and thus suspect, and she being a ccf/ndp'r) I've never met anyone in the US who actually knows any US politicians (therealjae has also met tons of politicians, but I think they're all Canadian).

Lovely idea for a thread!

My closest friend, whose house is a half block from mine, was born the day before me, same year. She's bi and kinky like me, but not terribly poly.

I just got back from Toronto, where I learned that it is surprisingly difficult to make yourself stand on a glass floor 1,122 feet up (http://www.cntower.ca/attractions/l3_att_GlassFloor.htm). I managed it, though, and felt inordinately proud of myself.

I once made Douglas Adams laugh, at BZ's partial expense. It took her
a long time to admit that what I'd said *had been* funny. Someone
looking in our copy of Mostly Harmless might think that the humor
was his idea, potentially. %-}

P.S.: Yes, I will tell you sometime, but it's a better story IRL.
