The OH found an article in Science News about this Russian herb that acts as an antidepressant and general stress reliever. We are not generally big fans of medicinal dietary supplements (although I have used Coffea arabica as an antidepressant and stimulant for decades :-) ) but he seems particularly intrigued by this. Do you have any experience with it?

Definitely sounds interesting ... maybe next time I'm in the natural-food store (I was there about a half hour ago :-)) I'll see if they have some that looks as though it's from a respectable company, and think about whether I feel like trying it.

back when i was researching herbal remedies for depression, it came up in several sources, and i ended up adding it to the tea i concocted for a while (from a whole slew of supposedly anti-depressant herbs [1]). it's not cheap (1 fl oz C$15 at the time), and i can't really say anything much about its efficacy. i was drinking the tea during the atkins experiment, which means i don't know whether my generally higher energy levels were helped by it at all (as compared to the low carb intake, which has a very clear effect on it, because it's working now too, and i am not drinking the tea).

[1] ginkgo biloba, turnera diffusa (damiana), valeriana officinale (valerian root), scutellaria lateriflora (skullcap), tilia cordata/platyphyllos (linden flower), albizzia julibrissin (mimosa), melissa officinalis (lemon balm), panax ginseng, and the rhodiola.

I have taken it on and off for "general support".

I feel its effects are significant, but not pronounced. I also feel that when I no longer need it I feel a bit aggressive or a little speedy, so I stop taking it.

Since I'm dealing with a lot of background grief and depression this mild support keeps me feeling more on an even keel without getting weird. I have taken one cap each day and it seems like never for more than about 14 days in a row, then I feel that aggressive/speedy thing and stop.

I haven't used a particular brand, but have only picked it up where ever I am when I happen to need some. I have not noticed a difference in brands, for what it's worth.
