[personal profile] kate_nepveu has some tips for people coming to DW from G+ here.

This code (swiped from [personal profile] kate_nepveu) adds a plus-one feature to your post:

<poll name='' isanon='no' whovote='all' whoview='all'>
<poll-question type='radio'>
+1?
<poll-item>+1</poll-item>
</poll-question>
</poll>

Or you can add a "like" instead.
<poll name='' isanon='no' whovote='all' whoview='all'>
<poll-question type='radio'>
Like?
<poll-item>+1</poll-item>
</poll-question>
</poll>

Or a range of options.
<poll name='' isanon='no' whovote='all' whoview='all'>
<poll-question type='check'>
Eh?
<poll-item>Like</poll-item>
<poll-item>+1</poll-item>
<poll-item>Tickybox!</poll-item>
</poll-question>
</poll>

If you don't want to deal with copying and pasting the code, you can use the Poll Creator.

But is it really that much more difficult to type "Neat!" or "This is cool" rather than +1? I just personally don't get it.

The whole point's not having to type anything at all.

To expand upon this (Dreamwidth-specific) I'd much rather click a +1 button or a thumbs-up or an "I read this" ticky box or similar than:

1) Click the reply link to a top-level entry
1a) if logged in, get the quickerreply form with its title field and comment form to fill in
1b) if logged out, wait on the next page with full-size comment form to load with its title field and comment form to fill in
2) fill in at least one of the fields or forms (comment text can't be empty, so the comment form often wins when one's in a hurry)
2a) if you need more options on quickerreply, click the More Options link, then wait for the full-size comment form to load
3) click Submit, wait for the posted comment to load
3a) if the poster's screening comments, wait anywhere from minutes to days for the comment to be unscreened by the poster
4) reply to anyone who replies to your comment or at least look over what they said

As compared to:

1) tick the ticky box or click the thumbs-up; done

It'd be nice to just mark ourselves "present", is I guess what I'm trying to say, without all the rigmarole comment replies can involve.

And though I've shied away from saying it, I probably just should - semantics aside (because I know you don't mean to cover *literally* every sort of possible situation with the words "neat" or "cool") "neat" or "cool" doesn't always work or cut it. I myself can make posts so involved and personal I fully expect people are a) dumbfounded and b) could need up to hours to find the right words to say, if they ever find them at all.

So I've learned to build that sort of non-reaction reaction into some of my (mostly access-locked) writing or I wouldn't be able to keep doing those kinds of posts because they get so little to no visible feedback. But. On the other hand.

I know a certain core viewership *is* reading them (or at least reading most of them, or at least reading most of each one of them). And I feel for people I do this to, so I want a tool that lets them say, "I've been here" or "*waves* Hey, I read this" without actually having to find those (or any) words - because when you add in how long it can take to express them via our commenting system, I can see how it might be too much simply because people have their own lives, too.

So.
