Occasionally xkcd stumbles over its own feet, but I will NEVER not love that it depicts women winning -- including by being outright mean.

While I certainly do appreciate the strip overall, I have to wonder -- in what universe would any guy expect to get ANY sort of response from that line that wasn't a variant of FOAD?

(AKA "Dude, what are you smoking, you need to change suppliers.")

First, of course, it plays to the hostility that a certain subset of men have for women, especially women who (sensibly) won't go out with them or even remain in their company. Second, it relies on the law of large numbers. If even a couple percent of your target population respond to this kind of stuff, persistence will eventually lead to "success". (And mind you, the definition of success is pretty twisted as well.)

I'm almost coming to the opinion that people who are basically settled in what they are & people who are not are almost two different species, or at least work from such a different basis that what seems natural to one group is often at cross-purposes with what seems natural to the other.

Those in the second group often basically just feel guilty, and having a flaw acknowledged but semi-accepted could actually be very emotionally powerful. And if you feel you're trying to hide a flaw, there is both a relief and a feeling of giving in when it is brought into the open.

One reason I work so hard on being transparent to others and accepting of myself is so I can just go "Yes, and your point?" to any mention of my flaws.
